Food for the Homeless
Y-Care are committed to supporting young people who from no fault of their own find it difficult to provide themselves with the basic necessities.
At the time of the 2006 census, it was established that over 26,000 people were homeless in Queensland, of which 11,100 (43% were under the age of 24 years of age). Many of these young people do not receive regular and /or nutritious meals.
Snap frozen meals are produced in the kitchens of the YMCA Camp Warrawee and then distributed free to organisation supporting homeless and at risk youth and young people. These meals are easily heated in a microwave oven and for many young people a Y hot meal is the only hot meal they will receive. Meals are currently distributed to Brisbane, Sandgate, Redcliffe and Pine Rivers.
